WOODEN CANES: TRADITION’S CHALLENGE TO MODERN NEEDS
WHEN ERGONOMICS MEET IDENTITY
Conventional wooden canes, beloved by many elderly individuals for their natural beauty and timeless charm, often fall short in meeting ergonomic standards, leading to discomfort and limited functionality.
This project explores ways to enhance both usability and personal expression, finding ways to reflect the user’s identity while preserving the natural aesthetic and tactile appeal of the wooden cane.
This project reimagines the cane, not only improving comfort and usability but also creating a deeply personal connection by incorporating fingerprint-inspired designs that mirror the natural beauty of wood grain, reflecting the unique identity of the user.
CONCEPT

DO YOU KNOW?
A BIT OF TECHNICAL ANALYSIS!
Human fingerprint and wooden grains are of same pattern. Is-cane is designed by using fingerprint of the user as wooden grains that keep the natural beauty of the wooden while showing the identity of the user.

To ensure the cane's ergonomic design, I applied my technical skills and utilized RULA analysis in CATIA to study product interaction. This was further validated by testing a physical prototype.
